Thom Browne

Thom Browne reinvented the concept of “suits”. Iconic garments from men’s and women’s wardrobe, like blazers and tailored trousers, got for the brand Thom Browne a funny and witty connotation.

Thom Browne was born in 1965 at Allentown, Pennsylvania. After his economic studies he decided to move in New York to take a path that pushes him away from his scientific education. He began to be familiar with the fashion system working as salesman for Giorgio Armani’s showroom in New York. Then he becomes the designer of Club Monaco, a brand owned by Ralph Lauren group.

His first capsule collection – made of few items – was launched in 2001, it had only five garments which tells the designer’s passion/obsession: the suit as a uniform. The collection, sold in a small atelier in the Village, had a huge success that underlined the necessity to move forward with the project that was realized in 2004 with the first Thom Browne ready to wear men’s collection.

Between prizes and awards, above all three times Menswear Designer of the Year according the Council of Fashion Designer of America, Thom Browne becomes iconic for his interpretation of suit of which he mantains cuts and tailoring composition but he changes the volumes according to his personal style.

Thom Browne blazers have smooth tailoring cuts which gives them an ironic allure, same for cardigans and trousers.

Thom Browne Women’s collection was launched in 2011 and it reflects the stylistic job made with menswear: the classic college uniform with pleated mini skirts and cashmere cardigans become more than iconic.

Thom Browne’s fashion and aesthetic give back to us an ironic and funny way of living, even when we dress up.
