Jil Sander
JIL SANDER: Woman Collection
Clean lines, neutral colors and high-quality fabrics, these are the three Jil Sander’s distinguishing marks.
In 1973, after graduating in textile engineering and a job experience in the american magazine McCalls, Heidemarie Jiline Sander comes back to her hometown and she opens her first boutique in Hamburg. Between the brand displaied, rigourous tailleurs in basic palettes with slender volumes capture their interest. They are handmaded by Jil and she dedicates to them all her energies. This is how the myth of the Deutch designer who freed Germany style from the kitsch plague was born and this is how Jil Sander came the spokesperson of a “knife-shaped” fashion, as she defined it.
In ninetees Jil Sander was everywhere, she opens her first flagship store in Avenue Montaigne in Paris and, after, she conquers USA and Japan with her store in Tokyo. In these years the company puts down roots in Milan and it decides to add, close to the woman'collection, a male collection, showed in 1996 at MFW. The brand consolidates due to the accessories and cosmetic lines which have a huge success in the worlwide maket.
After the founder’s departure from the scenes, equally important designers such as Raf Simons and Rodolfo Paglialunga debuted as creative directors, until the arrival of the designers/spouses duo Lucie and Luke Meier. They made a meticolouse intervention that brought back the maison DNA made of clean cuts and obsessive attention on details.
Jil Sanders bag collection, inspired by the Tootie bags of PreFall 2013 collecion, is the protagonist of an interesting reinterpretation. Heritage and future are blended in a new minimalism chapter, always looking for new uniforms that can represent the evolution of contemporary society at their best.
