DSQUARED2
“Born in Canada, living in London, made in Italy” it’s Dean & Dan Caten twins claim, founders of Dsquared2 brand. A two voices storytelling that tells us a story of a country casual world, but also tailor made, full of layering and mix of fabrics of which denim is the master.
Originally from Willowdale, Ontario, Dean & Dan frequent the prestigious Parsons Fashion Academy in NY. Since they were young they were obsessed with denim – an must have into the american wardrobe – but they were forced to conceile this passion as their father didn’t approve it considering the jeans a poor garment. This veto will make their love for this iconic fabric grows more and more.
In 1995 Dean and Dan move to Milan and, a year later, thanks to an agreement with the company Gild, DSQUARED2 came to life. The year after Dsquared2 has its first show in Milan. The success arrives some year later, in 2001, when the duo had the fortune to create almost 150costumes for Madonna’s Drowned World Tour dancers. Later on, in 2003, Cristina Aguilera is their brand ambassador, an excellent image for the womenswear collection’s launch.
A typical uncommitted North American style made apparently of basic items like denim, country flavour shirts or tee shirts, it’s remodeled with overlays and tailoring details and brings always something new and original to the table.
The last few years the ICON Collection is the brand must have. The capsule is always represented by an iconic figure such as the singer Cher and the football player Zatlan Ibrahimovic.
The Canadian twins eclectic style let the two win a bet in which starting from menswear basic clothes they tells a story about a world in which people identify themselves like an icon.
